The Twangers and Monkey’s Guts

Monday 23rd November 2009

Ian’s Stag do at an archery fun-course event thingy was a pretty novel day out and definitely a whole load of fun. I always thought that shooting an arrow was something that required great skill and, to an extent, it does; however, to actually have the arrow hit something is a completely different story.

With all the relevant notches and guides on the bow and arrow, it’s relatively straightforward to nock-draw-and-release an arrow at a target (or, at least, somewhere in its general direction). The biggest problem – or test of skill, shall we say – is actually hitting the target (at all!). But in the spirit of team play, it was always a bit of a laugh and generous cheering for each other when arrows went sky-high or hit the killzone.

The day was set out well. It wasn’t just target practice but a variety of foam animals placed on hay-bales or strung-up, split with a nice hot lunch. And some how, we managed to top-and-tail the team scoring ladder with our two teams.

Following that up with a decent meal in a local pub/bar/restaurant, a night in with beers and Boogie Nights, and that sealed a decent night in with the guys.

And, once again, congratulations to Ian.

Just saw a motorcade escorted by police motorcycles. It’s amazing how efficient they carry out the traffic-halting, passing and drive-away.
